Arnold Golwitzer

Arnold Golwitzer, 92 of Carroll, died early Tuesday morning May 20, 2014 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Music will be by Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence Choir with Sherry Loughran as cantor. Lector will be Vernon Drees. Gift Bearers will be Arnold’s great-granddaughters: Elizabeth Allen, Addy Boell, Taylor Boell, Paisley Allen, and Alissa Sander. Honorary Gift Bearers will be Arnold’s great-granddaughters: Ava Allen and Kaylee Sander. Eucharistic Ministers will be Vernon Drees, Lorraine Danner, and Diane Hannasch. Casket bearers will be Arnold’s grandsons: Corey Boell, Travis Boell, Bob Allen, Jon Allen, Heath Golwitzer, and Scott Golwitzer. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Holy Family Cemetery near Lidderdale. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. by the Carroll Knights of Columbus and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass. Born on March 2, 1922, at Dedham, Iowa, Arnold was the son of John and Clara (Heman) Golwitzer. He spent his younger years in the Dedham area and attended St. Joseph’s School and then began farming. On September 7, 1943 he was united in marriage to Marcella Brincks at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey. The couple farmed near Willey until 1951 when they moved to the Lidderdale area where they farmed until 1985 and then retired to the Carroll Community. Arnold enjoyed sharing and spending time with mom “Sally”. Arnie and Sally enjoyed going dancing with their good friends Vernon and Phyllis Drees. Arnold had a strong devotion to his faith as a member of the Carroll Knights of Columbus, former member of Holy Family Parish in Lidderdale, and a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. Survivors include his children: Joleen (Dave) Wilson of Arvada, CO, Sandy (Joe) Boell of Carroll, Mary Jo (Dave) Allen of Scranton, and Dan (Marleen) Golwitzer of Glidden; nine grandchildren; fifteen and a half great-grandchildren; his siblings: Clarence (Mary Ann) Golwitzer of Wesley, Leona Drees of Carroll, Regina Vogt of Rochester, MN, and Alvina Rotert of Storm Lake; his in-laws: Josie Golwitzer of Carroll, Theresa Golwitzer of Algona, and Flora Brincks of Carroll, as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives. Arnie was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sally on February 2, 2013, a daughter Judy Haskel and her husband Tom; a son Duane Golwitzer; two grandchildren Chad Haskel and Jodi Golwitzer, and siblings: Fred Golwitzer, Leonard Golwitzer, Johnny Golwitzer, Martha Hagedorn, and Nora Pottebaum.
