Charles “Chuck” Martin, 82, passed away unexpectedly at St. Anthony Regional Hospital on Thursday, June 25, 2026, leaving behind a life defined by love, adventure, laughter and unwavering devotion to those he held close. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Breda American Legion with a group bike ride to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to honor Chuck by taking a bike ride or exploring somewhere new. Chuck believed the best parts of life were found in the journey and there is no better way to remember him than by continuing to enjoy the ride. Chuck was born on February 21, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, to LaVerne and Charles Martin. He proudly served his country in the United States Marines carrying with him a quiet sense of duty and integrity throughout his life.Chuck was married to Rhonda Weber Martin on April 30, 2005. Chuck was a father of two children, Margaux and Clint and is survived by them along with his beloved wife Rhonda, who was the love of his life. Against all odds, Chuck and Rhonda found one another and built a remarkable life together. While nearly three decades separated them in age, anyone who knew them understood that love knows no measure of years. The way they looked at each other spoke louder than words ever could. They shared a bond built on friendship, laughter, encouragement and unconditional love. Together they made memories that stretched from Iowa to San Diego and eventually back to Iowa. They explored the beauty of Hawaii, and Chuck especially fell in love with Alaska, often describing it as a magical place. One of their greatest passions was riding electric bikes. Countless miles were spent side by side enjoying the journey more than the destination. Their love of cycling, trains and history eventually inspired them to purchase and restore the historic train depot in Breda. Chuck had a mischievous grin that always made you wonder what he was about to say next. He loved making the people around him laugh, often with a perfectly-timed comment that caught everyone off guard. He is survived by his wife Rhonda, children Margaux and Clint, his half-brother Steve Nichols and half-sister Laura Nichols. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Judy McFall, half-brother Mike Nichols, father-in-law Ron Weber and brother-in-law Eugene Weber.
