Crescentia Luchtel

Crescentia Luchtel, age 94, of Carroll, Iowa, died Thursday, May 13, 2010, at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. The casket will be taken to the church at 8:30 A.M. Wednesday to lie in state until the time of the funeral mass. Lectors will be granddaughters, Michele Bolduc and Linda Lesage. Gift Bearers will be great granddaughters, Kianna Luchtel and Destiny Luchtel. Eucharistic Ministers will be Marilyn Foley and Art Reicks. Honorary Pallbearers will be granddaughters, Michele Bolduc, Joyce Lorenz, Linda Lesage, Carol Luchtel, Tracy Jackson, and Ahnalee Wiltfang. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Jim Luchtel, J. Christopher Hatch, David Sanders, Jason Luchtel, Craig Luchtel, Steven Luchtel, and Clint Luchtel. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Tuesday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Tuesday by the Carroll Catholic Daughters of America. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Tuesday by Holy Spirit Parish. Crescentia was born on June 18, 1915, at Arcadia, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Olberding) Sieve. She graduated from St. Bernard High School in Breda in 1933 and was member of the St. Bernard High School Symphony Orchestra. Crescentia and Richard H. Luchtel were united in marriage on June 27, 1939, at St. Bernard Church in Breda with Msgr. Frank Greteman officiating. The couple lived in Des Moines for three years and then moved to Templeton where they resided for several years, and moved to Carroll in 1954. Crescentia and Richard traveled through 46 states, Mexico, and Canada, and for twenty-four years spent six months each year at their winter home in Mercedes, Texas. She was a fifty year member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Crescentia enjoyed traveling, music, playing cards, and dancing. Survivors include her children, Ronald Luchtel and wife Mary of Davenport, Jeannie Fino and husband Joe of El Cajon, Calif., Sandra Hatch and husband Jon of St. Cloud, Minn., Craig Luchtel and Eva Sklenar of Iowa City, and Alan Luchtel and wife Kathy of Carroll; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Sieve and wife Dottie of Maple River; and a sister-in-law, Helen Sieve of Carroll. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Luchtel, in May 1992; her parents; a son-in-law, Gary Sanders; two great grandchildren, Isabele Ann Luchtel and Quintessence Marie Jackson; brothers, Duane and Leslie Sieve; a sister, Rayneldis Goetzinger; one sister in infancy; and by her parents-in-law, Henry Luchtel and Margaret and Ben Wempe.
