Dorothy Tranter

Dorothy Tranter, 91 of Carroll, died early Monday morning, February 13, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Music will be by Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Marcia Wiederin. Gift Bearers will be Dorothy’s granddaughters, Jennifer Wymer and Laura Klocke. Eucharistic Ministers will be Eugene and Vera Derner. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Dorothy’s great-grandchildren: Parker, Caleb, Tanner, Owen, Caden, Anna, Emma, Addison, Briella, Trent, Logan, Shyann, Andrew, Tyler, Jameson, and Jacob. Casket Bearers will be Cory Wolterman, Brian Wymer, Chris Wolterman, Jason Wolterman, Steve Klocke, and Gene Wiederin. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 p.m. on Thursday where there will be a Christian Wake Service by St. Lawrence Parish at 6:30 p.m. The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church at 9 a.m. Friday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass. Born on July 2, 1920 at Portland, Tennessee, Dorothy was the daughter of Clarence and Dovie Scott. She was raised in Kentucky and attended country school through the 8th grade. On February 26, 1946 she married Merle Wolterman, to that union were two sons, Ron and Dave. Merle passed away in July of 1969 and Dorothy married Lawrence Tranter on May 31, 1974. Dorothy was employed at the Carroll Manner Nursing Home and also worked at Coast to Coast for 13 years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and Parish Ladies Guild. Survivors include her sons: Ron Wolterman and his wife Ellen of Cherokee, and Dave Wolterman and his wife Alice of Carroll; two step-children: Paul Tranter and his wife Becky of Cedar Rapids, and Helen Eggleston and her husband Dennis of Omaha, NE; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Estelle Rickard of Kentucky, and Bessie Lou (James) Green of Kentucky; one brother, Monroe (Mary Sue) Scott of Kentucky; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Merle Wolterman and Lawrence Tranter; four sisters: Mary Rose Scott, Martha Scott, Minnie Bell Black, and Helen Fergeson.
