Elaine Hoffman

Elaine M. Hoffman, age 73, of Roselle, Iowa, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, April 23, 2009, at Holy Angels Church in Roselle. The Celebrant will be Father Dale Reiff. Lectors will be Darci Hoffman and Robyn Hoffman. Gift Bearers will be granddaughters, Jessi Wittrock, Nikki Wittrock, Stephanie Potthoff, and Abby Hoffman. Mass Servers will be Ashley Sibenaller and Hannah Dentlinger. Eucharistic Ministers will be Lou Pottebaum, Alice Rupiper, and Marlene Brincks. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Chad Hoffman, Erik Hoffman, Justin Wittrock, Christopher Potthoff, Adam Potthoff, Alex Hoffman, and Sam Sturm. Burial will be at Holy Angels Cemetery in Roselle. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. Wednesday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Wednesday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Wednesday by Holy Angels Parish. Mrs. Hoffman was born on March 31, 1936, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Irlbeck) Schwabe. She spent her younger years in the Maple River community and attended St. Francis School. Following her formal education she helped her parents at home. On April 19, 1955, she was married to Lynn J. Hoffman at St. Francis Church in Maple River with Father Paul Bruening officiating. The couple made their home in Roselle where they raised their family. From 1978 until her retirement in 1998 Mrs. Hoffman was employed by the housekeeping department at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. She was a member of Holy Angels Parish and the Parish Altar Society. Mrs. Hoffman enjoyed crocheting, quilting, baking, camping, shopping with her daughters, and having lunch with her friends. Survivors include her husband, Lynn Hoffman of Roselle; her children, Gary Hoffman and his wife Marla of Schaller, Jean Wittrock and her husband Joel of Halbur, Gail Potthoff and her husband John of Halbur, Keith Hoffman and his wife Pam of Clive, and Amy Sturm and her husband Russ of Avoca; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her sisters, Marian Bellcock of Sac City, Rita Meiners and her husband Bernard of Coon Rapids, Dorothy Eickman and her husband Maurice of Templeton, Delores Nagl and her husband Robert of Carroll, Ella Mae Bueltel and her husband Dale of Manilla, Betty Monson of Fulton, Missouri, and Janie Hastings and her husband Bill of Jacksonville, Oregon; and sisters-in-law, Melvina Wuebker of Rockwell City, Emaline Halbur of Carroll, and Lou Pottebaum and her husband Art of Carroll. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Jennifer Wittrock; and brothers, Donald and Robert Schwabe.
