Eugene V. Hoffman

Eugene V. Hoffman, 92, of Carroll, died Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Rolling Meadows Assisted Living in Carroll surrounded by family. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Father Peter Pham assisted by Deacon Louie Meiners. Mass Servers will be Vivian Hayworth, Sam Hoffman and Douglas Wittrock. Music will be provided by Kathy Halbur, the St. Joseph Choir and Jill Sabroske. Nicole Hayworth will be the Lector. The Gift Bearers are Jill Sabroske, Rebecca Strother and Melissa Caraher. The Eucharistic Ministers are Rebecca Strother and Scott Strother. The Honorary Casket Bearers are Dennis, Jim, Jerry, Kenny and John Hoffman and Mark Klocke. The Casket Bearers are Michelle Hagen, Scott Behrens, Erin Hall, Christopher Hoffman, Alex Wittrock and Adam Wittrock. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at Dedham. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. The casket will be moved to church on Wednesday morning and visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Eugene’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Eugene Victor, son of John E. and Theresa (Zitzlsperger) Hoffman, was born October 29, 1933, in Carroll County, Iowa. He attended grade school at St. Joseph School in Dedham and graduated from Carroll High School in 1951. On June 2, 1953, Eugene was united in marriage with Carol H. Klocke at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham by Father Henry Pick. To this union three children were born. The couple lived on the now century farm north of Dedham until retiring in 1994 and moving into Carroll. Eugene and Carol operated a successful farrow to finish hog operation. Eugene served on the Dedham Coop Board for several years. He enjoyed farming, daily coffee with the farmers in Dedham, going to casinos, and playing many card games after retirement with friends and family. Eugene and Carol made biannual trips to Las Vegas every March and November for many years. Their last trip was in 2024. Eugene is survived by his daughters Alice Behrens of Audubon and Joan (Rick) Wittrock of Carroll; a daughter-in-law Julie Hoffman (Vern Greving) of Dedham; 10 grandchildren: Michelle (Scott) Hagen, Scott (Kacie) Behrens, Erin (Kody) Hall, Christopher (Tracy) Hoffman, Jill (John) Sabroske, Rebecca (Scott) Strother, Nicole (Joel) Hayworth, Alex (Kenzie) Wittrock, Adam (Kenzie) Wittrock and Melissa (Michael) Caraher; 25 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Kathleen Irlmeier of Audubon; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Hoffman in March of 2026; his son Robert “Bob” Hoffman in 2018; his parents John E. and Theresa (Zitzlsperger) Hoffman; siblings: Alvin (Clara) Hoffman, Alred “Bud” (Lois) Hoffman, Louis (Dorothy) Hoffman and Lorraine (Harry) Klocke; Carol’s parents Edward and Margaret (Pletchette) Klocke; and several other in-laws: Jeanette Klocke, Luella (Bernard) Klein, Evangeline “Vangee” (Cecil) Cox, Elaine (Clarence “Doc”) Sporrer, Leona (George) Erps, Leana (Donald) Kalkhoff, Joseph Klocke, Louis (Mary) Klocke and Donald Irlmeier.
