Florence Odendahl

Florence Odendahl, age 96 of Carroll, died Sunday evening, January 16, 2011 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Friday, January 21, 2011 at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Mass Server’s will be Florence’s great-grandchildren: Leah Greteman, Nick Baumhover, and Ryan Glaser. Lector will be Florence’s granddaughter, Michelle Baumhover. Gift Bearers will be Florence’s granddaughters: Carolyn Schreck, Laurie Pujado, Jessica Zimmerman, and Melissa Odendahl. Eucharistic Ministers will be Florence’s granddaughters: Peg Greteman, Cheryl Reiling, and Sue Kutschkau. Casket Bearers will be Florence’s grandsons: Paul Reiling, Scott Snyder, Wayne Baumhover, Dave Anderson, Jim Reineke, Bill Nepple, and Greg Odendahl. The St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M., Thursday where there will be a rosary at 4 P.M., followed by a Christian Wake Service by the parish at 7 P.M. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for the Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation or St. Lawrence 2nd Century Campaign. Online condolences may be left for Florence’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Born on January 11, 1915 at Templeton, Iowa, Florence was the daughter of John G. and Catherine (Mock) Schoeppner. She spent her younger years in Templeton and attended Sacred Heart School later receiving her nurses training in Carroll. On August 25, 1937 she was married George Odendahl at Santa Fe, New Mexico with Florence’s brother Rev. Msgr. Clarence Schoeppner officiating. The Odendahls farmed north of Carroll until 1983 when they moved to Carroll. Florence always enjoyed sewing, gardening and was an avid reader. Mrs. Odendahl was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, St. Lawrence Ladies Guild, St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, Rug Making Auxiliary, and also volunteered many years for New Hope Village. Survivors include her seven children: Rose Marie Reiling and her husband Don of Storm Lake, Mardy Snyder and her husband Denny of Carroll, Alice Baumhover and her husband Gerald of Carroll, Betty Anderson and her husband Wayne of Carroll, Mary Reineke and her husband Ron of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Norma Schleisman and her husband Denny of Carroll, and John Odendahl and his wife Diane of Carroll; 31 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great-great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Lou (Erna) Odendahl of Manning; her sister-in-law, Katie Odendahl of Spencer; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George in May 1998; 4 sisters: Isabelle, Helen, Bernice, Annette Schoeppner; 7 brothers: Cyril, Urban, Walter, Bernard, Webb, Jack, and Rev. Msgr. Clarence Schoeppner; a son-in-law, Wayne Nepple; 5 great-grandchildren: Emily Reiling, Maxwell Tow, Jamie and James Curtis, and Daniel Nepple.
