Fred Kaus

Fred Kaus, age 92, of Carroll, Iowa, died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 A.M., Saturday, June 13, 2009, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Lector will be Marylynn Kaus. Gift Bearers will be children, Karen Archer, James Kaus, and Thomas Kaus. Eucharistic Ministers will be Arlene Dalhoff, Joan Shymanski, and Shirley Molitor. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Michael Slater, Andrea Slater, Kathleen Whitley, Jason Kaus, Adam Kaus, Dave Kaus, Steve Kaus, and Vincent Archer. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton. Visitation will begin at 9 A.M. Saturday at St. Lawrence Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left for the St. Anthony Nursing Home Education Fund. The Sharp Funeral Home of Carroll is in charge of funeral arrangements. Mr. Kaus was born on October 14, 1916, at Templeton, Iowa, the son of John and Frances (Williams) Kaus. He spent most of his lifetime in the Templeton community and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. On November 24, 1941, he was married to Irma Eischeid at St. Mary Church in Armstrong, Iowa, with Father Bernard Eischeid officiating. The couple made their home in Templeton where the family owned and operated Kaus Store until 1975 when they retired and sold the business. Mr. and Mrs. Kaus moved to Carroll in 1987. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish. Survivors include his children, Karen Archer and her husband Victor of Oxnard, Calif., James Kaus and his wife Marylynn of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Thomas Kaus and his wife Mary Beth of Lake Zurich, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Michael Slater and his wife Nina, Andrea Slater, Kathleen Whitley and her husband Robert, Jason Kaus and his wife Susan, Adam Kaus and his wife Crystal, Dave Kaus and his fiancé Jackie Cooney, Steve Kaus and his wife Vi, and Vincent Archer; ten great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Betty Eischeid of Carroll. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Kaus, in February 2001; his parents; a sister, Regina Kaus; and brothers, Peter, John, and Wilfred Kaus.
