H. Tiefenthaler

Gene Tiefenthaler, age 58, of Carroll, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll following a long battle with cancer. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M., Saturday, March 27, 2010, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott. Lectors will be Janet Griffin and Ronda Olesen. Gift Bearers will be Calvin Blessington, Eric Blessington, Nicole Behrens, and Christine Behrens. Eucharistic Ministers will be Bev Bruning and Linda Schaller. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene’s nieces and nephews. Casket Bearers will be Leon Tiefenthaler, Meryl Ludwig, Merle Starman, Bruce Gehling, Bob Jones, and Dale Hoffman. Graveside Services will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday at St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda. Officiating at the graveside services will be Father Joe Dillinger, Pastor of St. Bernard Parish at Breda. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Friday by the Carroll Knights of Columbus. There will be a Christian wake service at 6 P.M. Friday by St. Lawrence Parish. The Carroll Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will form an honor guard at the funeral home for the rosary and at the church for the funeral mass. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for the Knights of Columbus Rosary Foundation. Mr. Tiefenthaler was born on October 4, 1951, at Sac City, Iowa, the son of Paul and Mary (Rotert) Tiefenthaler. He spent his younger years in the Breda community and graduated from St. Bernard High School in 1969. Following high school Gene helped on the family farm until 1979 when he moved to Carroll and was employed by several Carroll businesses. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Parish Celebration Choir, Serra Club, R.S.V.P., St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, and the Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, serving as a Past Grand Knight. He was also a Hospice and Alzheimer’s Association volunteer. Gene enjoyed his family, flowers, collecting knick knacks, playing cards, crossword puzzles, and visiting with his friends. Survivors include his brothers, Arnold Tiefenthaler of Breda, LaVern Tiefenthaler of Breda, Gerald “Zeke” Tiefenthaler of Indianola, Gary Tiefenthaler and wife Jan of Adel, and Glenn Tiefenthaler of Auburn; his sisters, Eileen Blessington and husband Kent of Auburn, Karen Behrens and husband Marty of Lytton, and Marlene Tiefenthaler of Auburn; nephews and nieces, Calvin, Eric, Nicole, Christine, Joshua, Jennifer, and Jason; eleven great nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Carol Van Scoy of Carroll. He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Conrad and Mary Tiefenthaler and Henry and Argina Rotert.
