Jerry Schroeder

Jerry Schroeder, 72 of Carroll, IA died Wednesday morning, April 23, 2014 at his home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Rhonda Schroeder. Gift Bearers will be Ron and Elizabeth Juergens. Eucharistic Minister will be Joan Badding. Casket Bearers will be: Ron Juergens, Dale Derner, Pat Kelly, Don Kitt, Greg Stoelk, Mike Greteman, Bill Snyder and Greg Siemann. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Friday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9 a.m. on Saturday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass. Born on June 19, 1941 at Carroll, Iowa, Jerome was the son of Edmund and Helen (Wiederhold) Schroeder. He spent his entire lifetime in the Carroll Community and attended Kuemper Catholic Schools, graduating from Kuemper High School in 1959. Jerry worked at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and later worked road construction where he met Sherry Luing; to this union were five children. Jerry later married Charlotte Franklin on December 26, 1986 at Marne, Iowa. Jerry worked with his father with Schroeder’s Glass and Awning and then entered into partnership with his brother Barney. Jerry and Barney did various trades and evolved into the current family business, Schroeder’s ABC Seamless Siding and Gutters. He enjoyed watching movies, traveling, reading, golfing, vacationing in Scottsdale, AZ and socializing with his many friends. Jerry’s greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren. Jerry was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Carroll and the Carroll Country Club. Survivors include his wife Charlotte Schroeder of Carroll; his children: Kevin Schroeder and wife Kathy of Carroll, Craig Schroeder and wife Julie of rural Carroll, Kristine Snyder and husband Scott of De Soto, IA, and Kimberly Johnson and husband Matt of Carmel, IN; his grandchildren: Nick (Nichole) Schroeder, Megan Schroeder, Zach Schroeder, Maddi Schroeder, Heather Vonnahme, Allison Vonnahme, Sara Vonnahme, Riley Snyder, Alex Snyder, Claire Snyder, Garrett Johnson, Tyler Johnson, and Sarah Johnson; two brothers: David “Barney” Schroeder and his wife Rhonda of Carroll and Steve Schroeder and his wife Francie of Georgetown, TX; as well and several nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Sherry Luing; and a son Kirk Schroeder in infancy.
