Joan Schleisman

Joan H. Schleisman, age 75, of Carroll, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M., Saturday, July 25, 2009, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrants will be Father Timothy Schott and Father Jeff Schleisman. Lector will be Mrs. Schleisman’s husband, Dennis Schleisman. Gift Bearers will be Brittny Williams, Jessica Schleisman, and Allison Staley. Mass Servers will be Adam Schleisman and Aaron Schleisman. Eucharistic Ministers will be Sister Lou Ann Hannasch R.S.M. and June Bernholtz. The St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Casket Bearers will be Shawn Williams, Ryan Williams, Sage Lewis, Eddie Mauro, Alex Schleisman, and Andrew Schleisman. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 3 P.M. Friday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Friday by St. Lawrence Parish. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or church for the Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation. Mrs. Schleisman was born on April 3, 1934, at Templeton, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Wuebker) Hannasch. At a young age her family moved to Carroll where she attended Saint Peter and Paul Grade School and graduated from St. Angela Academy in 1952. Prior to her marriage she was employed as the Deputy County Auditor for Carroll County. On February 7, 1959, she was married to Dennis Schleisman at Saint Peter and Paul Church in Carroll with Father Adams officiating. The couple farmed near Spring Valley, Minnesota until 1966 when they moved to their farm north of Lidderdale. In 1984 they moved to their home in Carroll. Mrs. Schleisman was a homemaker and in later years was employed as a secretary for the Carroll Country Club and Iowa Small Engine Center. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Schleisman enjoyed her family, playing cards, playing golf, bowling, ceramics, and oil painting. Survivors include her husband, Dennis Schleisman of Carroll; children, Sandra Williams of Sioux City, Lisa Staley and her husband John of Sergeant Bluff, Craig Schleisman and his wife Kathy of Lidderdale, Steven Schleisman and his wife Theresa of Boone, and Carla Frese and her husband Cory of South Sioux City, Nebr.; sixteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers, Duane Hannasch and his wife Anita of Carroll, and Don Hannasch and his wife Helen of Maple River; a sister, Lorene Mauro and her husband Don of Des Moines; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Lowell and Joan Schleisman of Conrad, June Bernholtz of Carroll, Lyle and Lillian Schleisman of Carroll, and Ted and Jean Schleisman of Sunrise Beach, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother-in-law, Glenn Bernholtz.
