John "Jack" Wafful

John "Jack" Wafful, 64 of Carroll, died Monday, October 5, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Joleen Janssen. Gift Bearers will be: Lindsay Struecker, Courtney Wafful, and Maddie Wafful. Casket Bearers will be: Thad Struecker, Ron Preston, Don Irlbeck, Gary Irlbeck, Kevin Irlbeck, and Austin Irlbeck. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass. Dodge, Iowa, John “Jack” Wafful was the son of Orvil and Grace (Michalski) Wafful. Jack was raised in Ft. Dodge and graduated from St. Edmond’s High School. Following his schooling he served in the United States Army from 1970 until his honorable discharge in 1972. Jack was employed at Hormel in Ft. Dodge and later Hormel in Ottumwa. On May 1, 1999 Jack was united in marriage to Jan Irlbeck at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. Jack most recent employment was with the Webster County Roads and Maintenance Department where he worked until his retirement. He enjoyed watching the history channel on television and loved socializing with people whether it be family or friends. Jack is survived by his wife Jan Wafful of Carroll; his daughters: Courtney Wafful and significant other, Ron Preston of Ft. Dodge, and Lindsay Struecker and her husband Thad of Algona; his grandchildren: Maddie Wafful, Jacob Struecker, and Brody Struecker; his brother, Jim (Sandy) Wafful of Barnum; his mother-in-law, Ardella Irlbeck of Carroll; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Don (Denise) Irlbeck of Templeton, Joan Seddon of Templeton, Mern Irlbeck of Carroll, Gary (Shell) Irlbeck of Templeton, Kevin (Lynn) Irlbeck of Carroll and Joleen (Tony) Janssen of Glidden; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Sylvester Irlbeck; his sister-in-law, Glenda Irlbeck; and his brothers-in-law, Dale Irlbeck and Mike Irlbeck.
