Joyce Vonnahme

Joyce Vonnahme, age 69, of Carroll, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Cross Bearer will be Lucas Reising. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lectors will be Shannon Reising, and Abby Drees. Gift Bearers will be Bryce and Dylan Hockenson, and Alex and Tyler Emehiser. Eucharistic Minister will be Don Masching. Casket Bearers will be Jed Vonnahme, Jason Vonnahme, Jon Vonnahme, Zac Andersen, Eric Nees, and Travis Drees. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, after 4 p.m. on Tuesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church on Wednesday morning, where visitation will resume at 10 a.m., and continue until the time of the funeral mass. Joyce was born on April 24, 1947 in Carroll, Iowa, she is the daughter of Roland “Pork” and Elaine (Fee) Neumayer. She grew up in the Breda community, and graduated in 1965 from St. Bernard’s High School. On June 8, 1974 Joyce was united in marriage to Gary Vonnahme at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The couple made their home in the Carroll community where Joyce was a devoted homemaker. After her children were grown-up; Joyce worked as a teacher’s aide, and in the cafeteria at Carroll High School where she later retired. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family, and the recent opportunities she had to travel. She particularly enjoyed her time she spent in New York, Florida, and Las Vegas. Most of all Joyce enjoyed her beloved canine companion, Rocky. Joyce was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. Left to cherish Joyce’s memory is her husband, Gary Vonnahme of Carroll; five children: Jill (Cory) Emehiser of Grimes, Jacque (Cliff) Hockenson of Madrid, Jed Vonnahme of Magnolia, Jason (fiancé Kalee Danner) Vonnahme of Carroll, and Jon “Bubba” Vonnahme of Breda; four grandchildren: Bryce Hockenson, Dylan Hockenson, Alex Emehiser, Tyler Emehiser, and another on the way; her sisters: Joni Saunders of Breda, and Jan (Glen) Andersen of Carroll; her mother-in-law: Delores Vonnahme of Carroll; brothers-in-law: Ron (Marylou) Vonnahme of Dubuque, and Gene (Charlene) Vonnahme of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents: Pork and Elaine Neumayer, her father-in-law: Raymond Vonnahme; and her granddaughter: Lily Emehiser. The family would like to express their gratefulness to Kindred Hospice for the support and care Joyce and their family received.
