Kathryn Odendahl

Kathryn “Katie” Odendahl, age 90, of Spencer, and formerly of Carroll, died Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Craig Collison. Music will be by Kate Cuddy and the St. Lawrence Choir. Lector will be Dennis Schleisman. Gift Bearers will be Gary and Karen Odendahl. Eucharistic Minister will be David Meyers. Casket Bearers will be Bryan Odendahl, Brett Odendahl, Rob Jensen, David Meyers, Steve Odendahl, and Scott Odendahl. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a Rosary prayed at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service to be held at 6:30 p.m. The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church on Thursday morning, where visitation will resume at 10 a.m., and continue until the time of the funeral mass. Born on September 22, 1925 at Carroll, Iowa, Kathryn was the daughter of Frederick and Catherine (Frank) Meyers. She spent her younger years on the family farm near Willey, and attended St. Mary’s School. On February 21, 1944 Kathryn was united in marriage to Donald Odendahl at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey. The couple made their home in Carroll, where she was a devoted homemaker, and later worked at Sernett’s Department Store. Following Don’s retirement in 1994 they moved to Spencer, Iowa where she was currently living. Katie enjoyed embroidering many items each year that she donated to Sacred Heart Church in Spencer for their fundraising days. Katie was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Spencer. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Don Odendahl of Perham, MN, Donna (Fred) Mohr of Lake Forest, CA, and Bob (Kathy) Odendahl of Perham, MN; a daughter-in-law: Liz Odendahl of Carroll; 13 grandchildren 23 great-grandchildren; and her sister Rose Mary Lappe of Omaha, NE. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald on February 7, 2009, her son James Odendahl, great-granddaughter Samantha Schultes; and her siblings: Paul Meyers, and Bonnie Nelson.
