Lawrence Dentlinger

Lawrence Dentlinger, 92 of Arcadia, died Sunday, August 9, 2015, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2015, at St. John Catholic Church in Arcadia. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Con-Celebrant will be Fr. Richard Remmes. Music will be by Darlene Leiting and the St. John’s Choir. Soloist will be Sheila Dentlinger. Mass Servers will be Matt Dentlinger, Ben Dentlinger and Lauren Promes. Lectors will be Cate Hegstrom and Maria Promes. Gift Bearers will be Carey Vaughan, John R. Dentlinger, Kristy Conway, Sarah Morhfeld, Krystal Drumheller and Michelle Blaser. Eucharistic Ministers will be Diane Dentlinger and Lola Blaser. Casket Bearers will be Dave Dentlinger, Roger Dentlinger, Neil Dentlinger, Craig Dentlinger, Loren Dentlinger, Joel Dentlinger and Lee Dentlinger. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Russ Hegstrom, Al Blaser and Carey Promes. The Carroll 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Arcadia. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for St. Anthony Nursing Home or Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation. Born on January 29, 1923, on the family farm near Arcadia, Iowa, Lawrence Francis was the son of Joseph and Anna (Hoelscher) Dentlinger. There he grew up, and attended St. John’s Grade School. After his education Lawrence worked for the Collison Brothers and Bert Vonnahme. Lawrence then started his own farming operation where he farmed near Manning, and thereafter near Westside, and then near Arcadia. On February 12, 1947, Lawrence was united in marriage to Arlene Friedman at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle. To this union 11 children were born. In 1993 Lawrence retired, and he and Arlene moved into Arcadia. Lawrence enjoyed fishing, playing cards and games, county fairs, polka music, and attending a multitude of events to support his children and grandchildren. Lawrence was a member of a card club, the Carroll 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and he was also a lifelong member of St. John’s Parish, where he served as a long-time parish trustee, lector, Eucharistic minister and altar server. Left to celebrate Lawrence’s life is his beloved wife of 68 years Arlene of Arcadia, his children: Dave (Deanne) Dentlinger of Arcadia, Diane Dentlinger of Des Moines, Roger (Sue) Dentlinger of Marcus, Cate (Russ) Hegstrom of Waukee, Neil Dentlinger of Maple Grove, MN, Craig (Debbie) Dentlinger of West Des Moines, Loren (Kim) Dentlinger of Carroll, Lola (Al) Blaser of DeWitt, Joel (Sheila) Dentlinger of Arcadia, Lee (Sharon) Dentlinger of New London, and Maria (Carey) Promes of Carroll; 30 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; his siblings: Al (Izzie) Dentlinger of Westside and Joni Badding of Carroll; his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Elaine Dentlinger of Carroll, Mildred Schreck of Carroll, Sister Maria Friedman, FSPA of Lacrosse, WI, Wilma (Cletus) Irlbeck of Omaha, Phyllis Friedman of Carroll, and Doris Riordan of Rock Hill, SC, as well as other extended relatives. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law William and Helen Friedman, a daughter-in-law Karen (Menke) Dentlinger, his siblings and brothers-in-law: Ruth (Andy) Schreck, Martha (Everett) Daniel, Clara (Elmer) Friedman, Elmer Dentlinger, and Mary Dentlinger in infancy. Also, preceding Lawrence in death are his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Doug Schreck, Lenore (Del) Lengeling, Cyril Friedman, Dennis Friedman, and Bob Badding.
