Leona Seidl

Leona Seidl, 83 formerly of Dedham, died Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Fr. Andrew Hoffmann, assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. Con-Celebrants will be Fr. Brian Danner and Fr. Daniel Greving. Music will be by Cindy Bauer as organist, and the St. Joseph’s Choir. A special music selection will be sung by Leona’s grandchildren. Leona’s daughter, Laurie Stein, and Leona’s granddaughter, Michaela Seidl Steiner will each sing a solo for the funeral mass. Mass Servers will be Leona’s grandchildren: Jordan Seidl, Nicole Seidl and Hannah Wailes. Lectors will be Leona’s granddaughters: Jill Kluver, Holly Smith, and Heather Wailes. Gift Bearers will be Leona’s grandchildren: Joe Stein, Shelli Juergens, Jaci Smith, and Stephanie Seidl. Eucharistic Ministers will be Leona’s son, Steve Seidl and Leona’s daughter- in- law, Lori Seidl. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Leona’s grandchildren. Casket Bearers will be Leona’s grandsons: Mark Seidl, Nick Seidl, John Seidl, Kevin Wailes, Scott Wailes, Jay Weisenborn, Justin Seidl, and Noah Seidl. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dedham. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service by St. Joseph’s Parish at 7 p.m. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for the John J. and Leona M. Seidl Scholarship Fund at Kuemper Catholic Schools. Born on April 12, 1928 at Willey, Iowa, Leona Margaret was the daughter of Henry and Laura (Grote) Oswald. She attended St. Mary’s School in Willey through the 8th grade. After her schooling Leona worked for many families in the area caring for their children when new babies were born. She talked fondly of Marie Schumacher’s family and cared for many of their children. On September 27, 1949 she married John J. Seidl at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey. John and Leona made their home southeast of Dedham at the family farm where she was a dedicated wife and mother to their nine children. Leona loved her family and always enjoyed cooking for their many family gatherings. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly called her GG. Leona enjoyed sending cards to her family and many friends for various occasions and also enjoyed making crafts. Leona moved to the Carroll Community in 2006 and was most recently as resident at Sunnybrook of Carroll Assisted Living. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Dedham and Parish Ladies Guild. Survivors include her children: Steve Seidl and his wife Sue of Dedham, Mike Seidl and his wife Jean of Dedham, Tom Seidl and his wife Lori of Dedham, Laurie Stein and her husband Lynn of Manning, Joni Wailes and her husband Rick of Boone, Nancy Weisenborn and her husband Steve of Carroll, Tim Seidl and his wife Brenda of Dedham, Chris Seidl and his fiancé Brenda Wipperfurth of Minneapolis, MN, and Amy Vollstedt and her husband Kevin of Urbandale; 24 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Marie (Max) Bell of West Des Moines, and Agnes Louis of Carroll; two brothers: Andy (Iris) Oswald of Omaha, NE, and Dick (Emily) Oswald of Coon Rapids; three sisters-in-law: Phyllis Oswald of Carroll, Marlene Oswald of Adams, MN, and Clara McCord of Colo; as well as other extended relatives and many friends. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband John J. Seidl in October, 2002; a daughter in infancy, Jane Seidl; two sisters: Genevieve Nees and Angie Nees; and two brothers: Walt Oswald and John Oswald.
