Lucy "Liz" Sturm

Lucy “Liz” Sturm, 93 of Carroll, died Monday, December 29, 2014 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Mass servers will be Lucy’s great-grandchildren: Madison Sturm, Meghan Sturm, Michaela Sturm. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Mary Kenkel. Gift bearers will be Lucy’s granddaughters: Shelly Egemo, Cindy Sturm, Julie Sturm, Deb Cox, Brenda Beyerink, Laura Hein, and Brandy Berg. Eucharistic Minister will be Lynn Wittrock. Casket bearers will be Lucy’s grandsons: Brett Beyerink, Brad Beyerink, Curt Kenkel, Mike Sturm, Matt Sturm, and Joe Sturm. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at Holy Spirit Church until time of the funeral mass. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Lucy’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Born on February 26, 1921 at Mt. Carmel, Iowa, Lucy “Liz” was the daughter of Stephen and Anna (Schulte) Loew. She grew up in Maple River and attended St. Francis School. On February 6, 1943 she married Frank X. Sturm Jr. at Phoenix City, Alabama while he was stationed with the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge the couple moved back to the Carroll area. Lucy had various jobs in Carroll County and was also a devoted wife and mother while her husband was engaged in farming in the Maple River, Lidderdale, and Mt. Carmel areas. In 1970, Frank and Lucy moved to Carroll. She enjoyed playing cards and was gifted at crocheting and quilting. Lucy’s greatest joy was her entire family. Lucy was currently a member of Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. Survivors include her children: Bernie Kenkel and her husband Neil of Twin Lakes, Dick Sturm and his wife Mavis of Denver, CO, and Barb Beyerink and her husband Bob of Vail; her daughter-in-law, Mary Sturm of Carroll; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; her sisters-in-law: Deloris Sturm of Carroll, Lois Sturm of Breda, and Lorraine Ebersole of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank X. Sturm Jr. in 1985; her son, Donald Sturm; her grandson, Brian Beyerink; 6 sisters; and 4 brothers.
