Marie Wendl

Marie Wendl, age 89, of Carroll, died Friday, September 16, 2016 at the Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion, Nebraska. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Con-celebrant will be Fr. Craig Collison. Music will be by Shelly Schreck, and the St. Mary’s Choir. Mass Servers will be Collin Wiederin, and Nate Wendl. Lectors will be Alice Music, and Keith Wendl. Gift Bearers will be Rhyem Wendl, Ella Wiederin, and Cameron Wendl. Eucharistic Ministers will be Mary Wendl, and JoAnne Neugent. Honorary Casket Bearers will be David Wendl, Joseph Wendl, Marvin Wendl, Daniel Wendl, Steve Wendl, and Keith Wendl. Casket Bearers will be Joey Wendl, Chris Music, Danny Neugent, David Neugent, Scott Wendl, and Brian Wendl. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Monday where there will be a Rosary prayed at 5 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be held at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Kuemper Catholic High School. Marie Wendl, daughter of Charles and Mary (Stoberl) Muhlbauer, was born May 21, 1927, at home northeast of Manning, Iowa. She attended school in Halbur, IA. On January 7, 1947, Marie was united in marriage with Vic Wendl at St. Augustine’s Church in Halbur, IA. Nine children were born to this union. The couple farmed south of Willey, IA. After their retirement from farming in 1981, they moved to Carroll, IA. Marie and Vic enjoyed playing cards, singing with the RSVP choral group, volunteering, and visiting family. They also traveled over the years through most of the United States and several countries in Europe, including a visit to family in Germany. Marie was a talented seamstress and enjoyed cooking, volunteering at New Hope Village, and gardening. When Vic had a severe stroke in 2007, Marie moved to Sunnybrook Assisted Living for 3.5 years (Sept 2009-March 2013). In March of 2013, Marie suffered a severe stroke and moved to Omaha for rehabilitation and ultimately long term care at Hillcrest County Estates. She lived there 3 ½ years until her death on September 16, 2016 at the age of 89. Preceding Marie in death are her parents; husband, Vic in 2010, six brothers: Chas (Ann), Joe, Hank (Ruby), Tony (Laura), Bill and Louis Muhlbauer; sisters Sophie (Wayne) Kuhse and Rosie Nulle. Brother-in-laws Alphonse, Leo (Frances) and Paul (Irene); and sister-in-law’s: Nell (Henry) Meiners and Sister Joan Marie Wendl; daughter-in -law, Kirstin Wendl. She is survived by her children: David (Joanne) of Willey, IA. Joe of Bellevue, NE, Mary (Joe) Zaborowski of Omaha, NE, Marv of Jackson, WY, JoAnne (Kevin) Neugent of East Lansing, MI., Alice (Walter) Music of Leesburg, VA., Dan of Scottsdale, AZ, Steve of Council Bluffs, IA and Keith of Norwalk, IA; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law’s: Sister Lydia Wendl, FSPA, of LaCrosse, WI, Alvina Wendl of LeMars, Erna Ohdendahl and Iola Muhlbauer of Manning, Phyllis Muhlbauer of Manilla and brother-in-law Wes Nulle of Manning.
