Maxine Schultes

Maxine Schultes, age 79, of Willey, Iowa, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Friday at St. Mary Church in Willey. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson. Lectors will be granddaughters, Nichole Schultes, Sarah Cue, and Jessica Schultes. Mass Servers will be grandchildren, Sammi Schultes, Danny Baumhover, and Brittany Baumhover. Gift Bearers will be grandchildren, Madison Reynolds, Mason Reynolds, Stephanie Schultes, Anna Schultes, Joel Schultes, Becca Schultes, Ashley Schultes, Vicki Stinson, and Melissa Schultes. Music will be by organist Barb Danner and St. Mary Choir. Communion Ministers will be Karen Schultes, Mary Schreck, and Mary Lou Schultes. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Chris Schultes, Marty Baumhover, Jake Schultes, Tyler Schultes, Anthony Schultes, Mitch Schultes, Leon Schultes, Mark Stamps, Nick Schultes, and Bret Schultes. Burial will be at St. Mary Parish Cemetery in Willey. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. Thursday. Maxine was born on February 15, 1933, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (Kanne) Wieland. She spent her lifetime in the Carroll and Willey communities and attended St. Joseph School in Carroll and graduated from St. Angela Academy. On November 15, 1954, she was united in marriage to Leon Schultes at St. Joseph Church in Carroll with Father Bernard Wieland officiating. Maxine and Leon made their home on the family farm southwest of Willey where they farmed and raised their family. Following Leon’s death in August 2002, Maxine moved to her home in Carroll in 2003. She was a member of St. Mary Parish, Honorary Member of St. Mary Ladies Guild, and Honorary Member of the Dedham American Legion Auxiliary. Maxine enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing, and enjoying the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Maxine is survived by her children, Mike (Nancy) Schultes of Carroll, Margaret (Jerry) Stamps of Odessa, Texas, Tom (Karen) Schultes of Glidden, Alan (Cheryl) Schultes of Dedham, Matt (Marilyn) Schultes of Johnston, Gene (Bev) Schultes of Dedham, Joan (Steve) Baumhover of Dedham, Jim Schultes of Dedham, and Dawn (Shawn) Reynolds of Alleman; 25 Grandchildren; 4 Great-Grandchildren; her sisters, Sister Marian Wieland F.S.P.A. of LaCrosse, Wisc., Delores Pudenz of Carroll, and Bea ( Richard) Pudenz of Carroll; brothers, Paul (Rainy) Wieland of Carroll and Donald (Evie) Wieland of Carroll; and by her sisters-in-law, Janet Snyder of Breda, Dorothy Bruening of Carroll, Loretta Hannasch of San Antonio, Texas, Marilyn Pletchette of Carroll, and Mary Lou Schultes of Carroll. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband Leon Schultes.
