Patricia Happe

Patricia Ann “Pat” Happe, age 83, of Carroll, died Monday, December 6, 2010, at her home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 10, 2010 at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Father Timothy Schott, assisted by Deacon Gary Schon. Con-Celebrants will be Father Michael Amadeo and Father Lawrence McCarty. Mass Servers will be Sydney Macke, Meridith Werden, and Bailey Nichols. Lector will be Mrs. Happe’s son-in-law, Mike Barrett. Gift Bearers will be Mrs. Happe’s granddaughters: Michele Snyder, Erin Barrett, Kate Lynch, Emily Happe, and Ali Bruner, Maria Bruner, and granddaughter-in-law, Mallory Schon. Eucharistic Ministers will be Chuck and Carol Happe. Musicians for the mass will be Tyler Badding and Jacob Gute, accompanied by Marcy Anderson. Honorary Casket Bearers will be members of the St. Anthony Nurses Alumnae Association. Casket Bearers will be Mrs. Happe’s grandsons: Nick Schon, Matt Schon, Ethan Happe, Patrick Barrett, Jon Bruner, and grandsons- in-law: Phil Snyder and Aaron Lynch. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, after 2:30 P.M., Thursday, where there will be a rosary prayed at 3:00 P.M., followed by a Christian wake service by St. Lawrence Parish at 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for St. Anthony Hospital or the Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation. A daughter of Paul N. and Clara (Stager) Heires, Patricia was born on January 14, 1927, in Carroll, Iowa. She spent her lifetime in the Carroll community and attended St. Joseph Grade School, later graduating from St. Angela Academy, in 1945. In 1948 Pat graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Patricia was married to Richard “Dick” Happe on November 22, 1948 at St. Joseph Church in Carroll by Rt. Rev. Msgr. P.T. Lynch. In her early years, Pat was employed at the Carroll Medical Center and St. Anthony Hospital. Mrs. Happe did volunteer work for many years and enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bowling, and spending time with her family and many friends. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, St. Lawrence Ladies Guild, and the St. Anthony Nurses Alumnae Association. Survivors include her two sons: Jim Happe of Ames, and David Happe and his wife Jane of Bellevue, NE; three daughters: Ruth Barrett and her husband Mike of Carroll, Paula Schon and her husband Don of Glidden, and Beth Happe of West Des Moines; eleven grandchildren: Nick Schon, Matt (Mallory) Schon, Emily Happe, Ethan Happe, Michele (Phil) Snyder, Erin Barrett, Kate (Aaron) Lynch, Patrick Barrett, Ali Bruner, Maria Bruner and Jon Bruner; four great-grandchildren: Ashley, Tyler, Michael, and Aurora; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bill Otto of South Lyon, MI, Don Happe of Sioux City, IA, Jack and Geri Happe of St. Cloud, MN, Glen and Jan Happe of Clear Lake, IA, Dale and Joan Happe of Burnsville, MN, Gene and Jolene Happe of Burnsville, MN, Elaine Kult of Cherokee, IA, and Sister Mary Loretta Happe, M.S. of Wahoo, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard “Dick” Happe, in August 2007; and one sister, Carol Otto, in July 2007.
