Paul Danner

Paul Danner, age 88, of rural Carroll, died early Monday morning, December 13, 2010 at his home north of Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 16, 2010 at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Con-Celebrant will be Paul’s nephew, Fr. Dale Reiff. Mass Servers will be Great-Granddaughters: Emily and Chantal St.Peter. Lectors will be Paul’s Grandson, Eric Danner and Paul’s Granddaughter, Kathy Hall. Gift Bearers will be Paul’s children: Dennis Danner, Janet Gehling, and Jennifer Peterson. Eucharistic Ministers will be Paul’s daughter, Jennifer Peterson, and Paul’s sister in-law Bonnie Danner. Music will be by Marcy Anderson and Shari Schulte. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Rick Pudenz, Tom Underberg, and Randy Drees, Paul’s daughter-in-law, Laura Danner, and Paul’s son in-laws: Bill Gehling, Mike Peterson, and Richard Sibenaller. Casket Bearers will be Paul’s Grandsons: David Peterson, Paul Gehling, Jason Sibenaller, Pat Danner, Jerry Danner, Eric Danner, and Doug Danner. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m., followed by a Christian wake service by St. Lawrence Parish at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the St. Lawrence Second Century Campaign. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Born on December 30, 1921 at Carroll, Iowa, Paul Joseph Danner was the son of Ben and Clara (Juergens) Danner. He spent his entire lifetime in the Carroll Community and attended St. Francis School in Maple River. On October 4, 1943, Paul was married to Anna Mae Sanders at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll by Fr. Lambert Schenkelberg. Following their marriage, the couple farmed for one year near Maple River and in 1944 moved to the family farm two miles north of Carroll. The Danner’s observed their 50th wedding anniversary on October 4, 1993. Paul enjoyed Sunday afternoon drives, visiting with family and friends and playing with his grandchildren. Farming was not just his livelihood, but his true passion. Mr. Danner was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll. Survivors include his children: Dennis Danner and his wife Laura of Carroll, Janet Gehling and her husband Bill of Carroll, and Jennifer Peterson and her husband Michael of Ankeny; a son in-law, Richard Sibenaller of Glidden; 18 Grandchildren, 35 Great-Grandchildren, and one Great-Great-Grandchild; one brother, Merle (Bonnie) Danner of Carroll; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Sally Danner of Carroll, Betty Danner of Carroll, Kitch Semmens of Arizona and Rosemary (Keith) Fee of Minnesota. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; wife Anna Mae in June, 1994; a daughter, Joyce Sibenaller in 1997; six children in infancy; three grandchildren in infancy; one great-grandson; his brothers: Alton Danner and Donald Danner; his sisters: Laverne Semmens, Alma Gordon, Bernice Bayless, and Florence Middendorf.
