Paul Darlene Bruch

Paul Bruch, age 75, and his wife, Darlene Bruch, age 72, of rural Halbur, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010. Paul had recently been diagnosed with cancer and Darlene had been struggling with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Mass of the Christian Burial for Mr. and Mrs. Bruch will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at St. Augustine Church in Halbur. The Celebrant will be their son, Father Lynn Bruch. Con-celebrants will be Father James Bruch, Father Steve Brodersen, and Father Dale Reiff. Homilist will be Father Steve Brodersen. Lector will be Bernice Worrell. Gift Bearers will be grandchildren, Jennifer Knobbe, Kayla Knobbe, Kent Knobbe, Jadie Knobbe, Cory Bruch, Caitlin Bruch, and Carter Bruch. Mass Servers will be Jacob and Alex Bruch. Casket Bearers for Paul will be Kenny Venner, Dennis Venner, Kevin Venner, Jerry Bruch, Danny Bruch, and Tom Bruch. Casket Bearers for Darlene will be Dave Mescher, Pat Mescher, Nick Mescher, Brian Bruch, Mike Bruch, and Randy Bruch. Burial will be at St. Augustine Cemetery in Halbur. Friends may call after 3:30 P.M. Tuesday at St. Augustine Church in Halbur. A rosary will be prayed at 4 P.M. Tuesday by the Templeton Catholic Daughters of America and Carroll Knights of Columbus. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Tuesday by St. Augustine Parish. Visitation will resume at 8 A.M. Wednesday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Paul Bruch was born on May 11, 1934, at Lidderdale, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Regina (Grossman) Bruch. His family moved to Arcadia where he graduated from Arcadia High School in 1952. Darlene Bruch was born on November 28, 1937, at Halbur, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Ann (Schenkelberg) Mescher. She graduated from Kuemper High School in 1955. Paul and Darlene were married on February 16, 1957, at St. Augustine Church in Halbur. They farmed west of Carroll on old Highway 30 and in 1961 moved to the farm east of Halbur. Paul was a member of St. Augustine Parish, Knights of Columbus, and served as a Parish Usher. Darlene was a member of St. Augustine Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Red Hat Ladies. Paul and Darlene enjoyed their family, dancing, and having coffee with their friends. In retirement Paul enjoyed helping on the farm and Darlene enjoyed helping Pam and Kyl Knobbe with their plumbing and heating business. Mr. and Mrs. Bruch are survived by their children, Father Lynn Bruch of Lake City, Pam Knobbe and her husband Kyl of Carroll, and Loren Bruch and his wife Linda of Halbur; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Knobbe, Kayla Knobbe, Kent Knobbe, Jadie Knobbe, Cory Bruch, Caitlin Bruch, and Carter Bruch. Paul Bruch is also survived by his brothers, Leo Bruch and his wife Betty of Templeton, Art “Bud” Bruch, Jr. and his wife Rita of Arcadia, Robert Bruch and his wife Lois of Audubon, and Marvin Bruch and his wife Rita of Manning; and sisters, Anita Venner and her husband Cyril of Arcadia, and Carol Starman and her husband James of Halbur. Darlene Bruch is also survived by her brothers, Paul Mescher and his wife Ruth of Halbur, and Jerry Mescher and his wife Sharon of Halbur; and a sister, Bernice Worrell and her husband Tom of Miami, Florida. Paul and Darlene were preceded in death by their parents.
