Paul Meyers

Paul Meyers, 91 of Carroll, died Wednesday morning, June 17, 2015 at Riverside North Nursing Home in Ames. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2015 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Music will be by Kate Cuddy and the St. Lawrence Choir with Jean Knobbe as cantor. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Amy Struck and Ashley Meyers Flattery. Gift Bearers will be: Barbara Anderson, David Meyers and Suzanne Meyers. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Bonnie Danner, Lou Pottebaum, and Lynette Lehrter. Honorary Casket Bearers will be grandchildren: Scott Werner, Brian Werner, Kim Wetzel, Brenda Smith, David Struck, Tim Struck, Jill Hensel, and Ashley Meyers Flattery. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Paul’s family will greet friends one hour prior to mass on Friday at the church. Born on March 13, 1924 at Carroll, Iowa, Paul was the son of Fred and Kate (Frank) Meyers. He spent his younger years on his family’s farm near Willey and attended St. Mary’s School; later graduating from Carroll High School. In 1946, Paul was married to Alma Daiker at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. To this union were three children. Following his marriage Paul held various jobs and spent most of his working career with Farmland Foods in Carroll until his retirement. Paul was an avid antique collector and also poured a lot of love and passion into his flower garden with a special passion for roses. As his health began to fail he moved to Ames where he was a resident at Riverside North Nursing where he passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. He was a special father, brother, grandfather, and will be dearly missed. Paul was a member of St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. Survivors include his children: Barbara Anderson of Norwalk, David Meyers of Urbandale, and Suzanne Meyers and her husband Richard Garrey of Ames; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; his sisters: Rosemary Lappe of Omaha and Katie Odendahl of Spencer; as well as other extended relatives and many friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alma Daiker; his sister, Bonnie Nelson; his daughter-in-law, Connie Hobbs Meyers and his son-in-law, Roger Anderson.
