Roger "Rocker" Snyder

Roger “Rocker” Snyder, 78, of Breda, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Mass servers will be Tucker Boeckman and Matt Wessling. Music will be by Marilyn Hundling and the St. Bernard’s Choir. Lectors will be Rocker’s son, Doug Snyder, and grandson Reace Snyder. Gift bearers will be Rocker’s grandchildren Lane Snyder, Riley Snyder, and great-granddaughter Claire Snyder. Eucharistic minister will be Rocker’s daughter-in-law, Lori Snyder. Casket Bearers will be Rocker’s children: Dan Snyder, Randy Snyder, Rick Snyder, Glen Snyder, Lisa Siepker, Alan Snyder, and Doug Snyder. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda. Friends may call at St. Bernard’s Church in Breda after 4 p.m. on Friday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda, and online condolences may be left for Rocker’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com. Born on October 22, 1935 at Carroll, Iowa, Roger Bernard was the son of Walter and Christine (Grote) Snyder. He grew up in the Breda community and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1953. On August 30, 1958 Roger was united in marriage to Bette Siepker at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. To this union were 7 children. Rocker farmed his entire life in the Breda area. He was very dedicated to the Breda community being active in the church and a member of the St. Bernard School Board where he was active in helping with the transition into the Kuemper Catholic School System. Rocker enjoyed helping his neighbors. He was only a phone call away when a farmer needed a ride, needed help fixing a flat tire, or just an ear to listen to other’s life stories. He always seemed to have just the right tool to help his friends with their problems. He will be remembered by many for his countless acts of kindness. Rocker was a very dedicated Chicago Cubs fan. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. Left to celebrate Rocker’s life includes his children: Dan (Sharon) Snyder of Breda, Randy (Lori) Snyder of Breda, Rick (Teresa) Snyder of Lake City, Glen (Shelley) Snyder of Carroll, Lisa (Brian) Siepker of Carroll, Alan (Tina) Snyder of Auburn, and Doug (Daneè) Snyder of Lake City; eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his siblings: Madonna Boeckman of Breda, Carl (Mary) Snyder of Breda, and Linda (Kenny “Joe Pup”) Steinkamp of Breda; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. Rocker was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Christine Snyder.
