Scott Koster

Scott Koster, 44 of Breda, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll from injuries received in an accidental fall north of Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2012 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Richard Remmes. Music will be by Marilyn Hundling and the St. Bernard’s Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Scott’s sister, Eileen Lewis. Gift Bearers will be Scott’s nephews: Matt and Brian Koster. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Scott’s brother, Chris Koster; Scott’s nephew, Andy Koster, and Jean Grote. Honorary Casket Bearers will be: Jeff Pudenz, Brian Hogue, Tim Hughes, Jeff Carpenter, Brent Hurd, Danny Rothmeyer, Scott Onken, and Derwin “Dorp” Dorpinghaus. Casket Bearers will be: Bill Hensel, Tom “Zip” Masching, Russ Schelle, Rick Bruning, Adam Pudenz, Larry “Lumpy” Stork, and Devin Pudenz. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda with Military Honors conducted by the Breda American Legion. Friends may call at the St. Bernard’s Church in Breda after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service by the parish at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the church or the Breda Savings Bank for the Scott Koster Memorial Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda. Born on March 7, 1967 at Carroll, Iowa, Scott Doyle Koster was the son of Leroy and Joanell (Blum) Koster. He attended St. Bernard’s Grade School and later graduated from Carroll High School with the Class of 1985. On August 16, 1986 Scott married Lori Johnson at St. Bernard’s Church in Breda. He served in the United States Marine Corps where he was stationed in San Diego, Twenty-nine Palms, and Okinawa, Japan. Scott and Lori returned to the area and lived in Carroll for a brief time until moving to their current home west of Breda. Scott was employed at the Pella Corporation, Montgomery Specialty, Van Erdewyk Electric, Stork Construction, and currently was the owner of Scott Koster Electric. Scott enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting, playing cards, wrestling, shooting the breeze, and spending time with his family and many friends. He was a member of the Breda American Legion, Son’s of the American Legion, and St. Bernard’s Parish in Breda. Scott gave the ultimate gift of life for others through organ and tissue donation. Survivors include his wife Lori Koster of Breda; his children: Emily Koster of Halbur, and Derik, Abby and Zach Koster at home; two grandchildren: Chloe Koster and Alex Powell; his parents, Leroy and Joanell Koster of Breda; three brothers: Kevin (Annette) Koster of Breda, Chris (Karen) Koster of Breda, and Tim (Shery) Koster of Silverhill, AL; two sisters: Eileen (Mark) Lewis of Cambridge, and Nicky (Bob) Wiederien of Chesapeake, VA; his father-in-law, Robert John (Gail) Johnson of Marquette, MI; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Rob Johnson of Omaha, NE, Travis (Tammy) Sission of Des Moines, Sheli (Kevin) Pester of Charter Oak, Nick Sission and his friend Tera Wright of Carroll, and Katie (Zach) Schwartz of Charter Oak; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents: William and Mathilda Koster and Dr. A.A. and Mava Blum; his mother-in-law, Ruth Sission; and his brother-in-law, Ken Young.
