Tom Nees

Tom Nees, age 60, of Mt. Carmel, died Sunday, May 24, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel. The Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Music will be by Denise Nieland, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Choir with Jake Gute as soloist. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Jayson Garner and Theresa Potthoff. Gift Bearers will be Kaeja Garner, Sophia Nees-Garner, and Aidan Nees-Gebhart. Eucharistic Minister will be Joan Wehr. Casket Bearers will be Dan Nees, Steve Nees, Joe Nees, Mike Nees, Chandler Nees-Stoelk, Teren Nees, Ty Anderson, Alec Brown, and Josh Pudenz. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Friends may call at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel after 4 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left at the church for St. Anthony Hospice. Born on April 27, 1955 at Carroll, Iowa, Thomas Nees was the son of Kenneth and Jeanette (Baumhover) Nees. Tom attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Grade School and later graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School with the Class of 1973. On July 27, 1974, he was united in marriage to Rosanne Snyder at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. Tom and Rosanne made their home near Mt. Carmel where he was engaged in grain and livestock farming with his father and his brothers. Tom had a passion for farming and could build or fix anything. He found great joy in sharing his skills and abilities with his grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and morning coffees at Al’s Corner. Tom’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Tom was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Rosanne of Mt. Carmel; his daughters Kara Nees-Garner and her husband Jayson of Clive, and Trish Nees and special friend Darren Cooper of Waukee; his grandchildren Chandler, Teren, Kaeja, Ty, Aidan, Sophia, and Dash; his father, Kenneth Nees of Mt. Carmel; his siblings: Dan (Kathy) Nees of Ankeny, Steve (Iris) Nees of Halbur, Joan (Ed) Wehr of Westphalia, Chris (Randy) Blake of Wiota, Theresa Potthoff (Jerry Green) of Pauls Valley, OK, Susan Nees (Scott Ainsworth) of Watkinsville, GA, Jill (John) Kolb of Ames, Joe (Monica) Nees of Breda, and Mike (Kim) Nees of Carroll; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Terry (Mary) Snyder of Carroll, Gina (Mike) Hotaling of LaVista, NE, Renee (Dave) Brown of Shawnee, KS, Steve (Nikki) Snyder of Urbandale, and Christy Snyder of Carroll; as well as other extended relatives and many friends. Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette Nees; his parents-in-law, Alfred and Donna Snyder; and his brothers-in-law, John Koster and Michael P. Snyder.
